Dadpreneur's Day: Why We Love Raising Our Kids & Businesses In Huntington Beach

You're rad, Dad.

This Father's Day, we wanted to hear from local "dadpreneurs" on why they love raising their kids and running their businesses in Huntington Beach. So we asked. Here are five local rockstar dads who embody the extraordinary spirit of our small business-adoring, family-focused, beachside community.

Aaron Pai of Huntington Surf & Sport

HB resident for 43 years

On being Dad // This is paradise! We have the ocean, the pier, great beaches with great waves, along with Duke's and the Sugar Shack. My sons Trevor and Taylor grew up surfing the pier and are out there every day like I used to be. Makes me so happy! Life's good!

On being Dadpreneur // Since I was a kid I wanted to own a surf shop so I could surf every day and live the surfing lifestyle. We have amazing beaches with amazing waves! I'm still surfing, and now my sons are out there too! I feel so blessed that all of my kids—Trevor, Taylor, Ashlyn, and Lindsay—along with my seven grandchildren, are involved in surfing and the surfing lifestyle.

Duke Dufresne of Four Sons Brewing

HB resident for 9 years

On being Dad // I love living here with my four boys because there is so much to do together, from the beaches, to the restaurants, to the many other activities.

On being Dadpreneur // Running our business here in HB is great because we all live within two miles of our business location, and we have also had the privilege of meeting so many new friends. The community here is very supportive and very enthusiastic about what we do, making us love our work! How lucky am I to spend every day working side-by-side with all four of my sons?! We also still hang out together when we're not working, plus we regularly go on family vacations and family outings!

Andrew Gruel of Slapfish

HB resident for 5 years

On being Dad // Huntington Beach has everything: beautiful beaches, amazing parks, great food, and it's very family-friendly.

On being Dadpreneur // HB Pride. People who live here love this city and quickly become loyal guests of the restaurant.

Matt Meddock of Sessions West Coast Deli

HB resident for 1 year

On being Dad // I love raising my kids here because of all of the amenities available.  Parks, beaches, hiking, restaurants, shopping.

On being Dadpreneur // I love running a business in HB because I have fallen in love with the diversity in the economic system here. From the hotels, to the tourists, to the locals. There is a little of everything in this city.

Chris Carrozza of Carrozza Surfboards, Ding Dudes, and Endemic Surfwhere

HB resident for 5 years

On being Dad // I love raising my kids in HB because there are so many outdoor activities and beautiful beaches, not to mention consistent surf and great community.

On being Dadpreneur // I love running a business in HB because there is so much community support for small business and so many resources available.
