Perched inside Smocking Birds Baby Boutique, two mama birds have built a charming nest for all things baby and toddler. With an impeccable bird's-eye view for mini-me flair, they've carefully curated a collection of one-of-a-kind hand-smocked dresses, organic cotton onesies, and kiddie necessities for eco-friendly families.

Hailing from Texas, mother-daughter duo Becky Pierce and Stephanie Holdridge have called Huntington Beach home since 2000. A longtime home smocker, Becky has been practicing the decorative embroidery technique since the 1980s. The pair built their first Smocking Birds nest in 2011 at The OC Mix in Costa Mesa, and when the opportunity to open a boutique at Pacific City landed before them, they flew the coop.

Inside the artfully designed boutique, you'll find something darling for every occasion, style, and generation. From classic clothing lines—including Becky's own hand-smocked collection—to modern whippersnapper threads, books, stuffed animals, accessories, celebrity products, and "Shark Tank" favorites, it's all housed inside the nest, hanging from handmade props like the oversize birdcage and wooden boat, built by neighboring Heirlooms & Hardware Owner Joseph D'Ambra.

We recently swooped into the nest to tweet with Becky and Stephanie about their new shop, which opened on January 18. Our hearts fluttered when we learned that they offer smocking classes on select Saturdays and hope to introduce more events to the retail-restaurant hub. Here are a few more chirps from the mother birds.

1 // Main & PCH: Spectacular oceanfront view aside, what makes your new Pacific City location unique to your former spot at The OC Mix?

Smocking Birds: We love being Huntington's one-stop shop for unique baby and children's clothing, books, and accessories. We're excited to be with other local as well as national retailers.

2 // When you're considering a product, what are the crucial characteristics?

We like for our new products to fall under our trademark of being "Classy, Whimsical, and Unique." Additionally, we love to support local entrepreneurs and other small businesses with noteworthy backgrounds and/or a philanthropic mission.

3 // Tell us about some of your favorite brands and products that you carry.

There are so many amazing ones! But we'll try to name a few special ones. Embé swaddles are designed by a local mama with a mission to create the perfect swaddle, and it truly is. MilkBarn is a top seller with its fun, unique characters and Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certified organic cotton. Little Giraffe is the perfect soft plush toy or blankie for any newborn gift. Lastly, Mayoral is our traditional line designed in Spain. It's an overall cute line for dressing up your little boy or girl.

4 // What's your vision for Smocking Birds?

We'll continue to expand our high-end and beach collections, and we're so pleased to announce that in June, we'll begin carrying Kate Spade baby and kids. We've also started partnering with Pacific City to bring fun "Mommy & Me" experiences to the plaza.

5 // As mama birds, what advice do you have for other mothers out there?

They're only little once; spoil them and enjoy the special moments every opportunity that you can. Dr. Seuss said it best: "Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory."
