Beach City Brewery will close its taps for good this weekend, after nearly two years of business. Huntington Beach's first production brewery brought us well-crafted brews like the Hang Five IPA and Sweet Crude Stout, along with seasonal ales and experimental small batch releases. When the brewery opened on May 10, 2014, it gave us all great reason to drink and appreciate the delicious art of craft beer.

"It was all just a pipe dream that I worked on a little every day, and it materialized into something people dream about," says Founder Glenn Closson.

Another Southern California brewery has taken the reigns and will reopen the space in mid-May after renovations and "big changes." The crew remains tight-lipped on the details (and we respect their wishes), but we do know that it will still function as a production brewery and tasting room, but will not carry the Beach City Brewery name.

"I'd like to thank my regulars," adds Closson. "They always went above and beyond in talking about Beach City Brewery and were great to talk with in the tasting room. I hope to see them when the tasting room reopens." Expect Closson to remain a fixture at the space.

Head Brewer Derek Testerman has taken a new post at Gunwhale Ales, opening this summer in Costa Mesa.

To the brewery that brought us Taco Brewsday, Stretch & Sip, and that always refreshing Overcast Summer Wheat, we raise our glasses to your gifts to not only the Huntington Beach community, but to the entire exploding Orange County craft beer scene. We encourage brewhounds near and far to visit Beach City Brewery in its last days to cheers and thank Closson and his crew in person.

Don't forget to also give Closson a pat on the back for his instrumental work in launching the Orange County Brewers Guild, with which he serves as secretary and treasurer. The incoming brewery will join the guild in Beach City Brewery's place.

Currently, Beach City Brewery plans to remain open on Easter Sunday, but with their last batches of suds running low, Saturday could call it kicked.
