Sessions Rolls Out New Breakfast Menu
Sessions West Coast Deli rolled out an expanded breakfast menu on Sunday, January 24, serving what they already know and do so well—gourmet sandwiches and Southern California culture—to those go-getting early birds. What's fresh are breakfast burritos, breakfast toasts, granola, and a few new brekkie sammies. Feast your eyes on the full menu below.
Downtown Huntington Beach now houses the best place to grab Avocado Toast, with a side of ocean view. We tried all four Breakfast Toasts, and while they all pack intense flavor, our favorite was the Ricotta Toast (lemon ricotta, marinated tomato, basil pesto, red onion, parmesan). The strawberry jam slowly dripping down the side of their Full Monty (ham, swiss, egg, strawberry jam, french toast, powdered sugar) and housemade coconut granola, served with vanilla yogurt, sliced banana, and drizzled honey, also sweetened up our morning breakfast session.
The decision by Owner Matt Meddock and Chef Max Schlutz to add breakfast burritos to their elevated morning offerings was easy: "'Let's go get breakfast sandwiches!' said no one, ever," quipped Meddock, an Orange County native, who recalled countless Saturday morning breakfast burrito sessions with friends. After experimenting in the kitchen, the duo landed on three tortilla-packed options: Skinny (egg, arugula, goat cheese, salsa verde), Gringo (a local favorite with egg, avo, cheddar, potato, salsa), and Meddock's proud creation, Breakfast Session (carnitas, egg, jalapeño jack, potato, pickled onion, habanero purée, guac, lime crema).
Portions are heaping, bread is baked fresh by OC Baking Company, and nearly everything is made from scratch, from the sauces, salsas, and lemon ricotta, to the basil pesto and pickled onions. Even a few meats (pork, chicken, meatballs, and turkey) are prepared in-house. A surprisingly delicious gluten-free bread, handmade by Huntington Beach-based Simply Layered, is also available. Ingredients are sourced locally, with an exhaustive emphasis on quality. All in-house flavors are crafted daily in the Huntington Beach kitchen, and carted just a few miles south to also serve the original Newport Beach location.
For a chef with numerous food allergies, hats off to Schlutz for nailing it with his sophisticated, refreshing flavor combinations.
Another perk is their coffee. Proudly pouring Orange County-based Kéan Coffee, Meddock waxed poetic about the fair trade, organic beans, which are roasted in neighboring Costa Mesa.
When Sessions claims to make "the best sandwich to ever hit the lip," they're absolutely right.
