The Vans US Open of Surfing hit the water on Saturday, July 25, taking over the south side of the Huntington Beach Pier with Men's Pro Junior Division rounds deciding the Quarterfinalists. Clean three- to five-foot waves lit up Huntington Beach on day one, and here are the highlights.
- Costa Rica's NoeMar McGonagle netted the day's high heat total of a 16.80 out of a possible 20 that also included the day's single high-scoring wave of a 9.33.
- The North Shore's Kalani David was electric in the day's conditions, including high-flying antics that saw him vault into the Quarterfinals.
- San Clemente's Griffin Colapinto was another opening day standout, claiming two heat wins en route to the Quarterfinals.
