Huntington Beach Then & Now: Beechcraft Sundowner Down At Meadowlark Airport

Then // On September 1, 1984, pilot Dan E. Phillips, 34, of Oxnard, got his Beechcraft Sundowner tangled with several cars after plowing through a fence when he overshot the runway of Meadowlark Airport. He was okay; the plane was not.

Now // Today, the runaway area, along with the rest of the airport, has been developed. In the "Then" shot, the Mormon church on Heil Avenue is visible, but today it is obscured by the homes.

A small plaque where the runway used to be, honoring the Nerio family which owned and ran the airport.
