Huntington Beach Then & Now: Ice Man Virgil Brewster

Huntington Beach Then & Now: Ice Man Virgil Brewster

Then // Back in the 1940s, Virgil Brewster carved a reputation for himself as one of the hardest working local merchants the city has ever known. He'd lug 100-pound blocks of ice on his back all through town, looking at the cardboard hexagonal measuring signs folks would post in their windows. Here he is in the alley running parallel to Main Street, near the old red brick jail cells.

Now // Today, Virgil is gone, but Brewster's Ice is still in the family and still one of the coolest places in Huntington Beach.
