7 St. Patrick's Day Parties In Huntington Beach

Patron saint of Ireland Saint Patrick is honored every year on March 17, and this year the international celebration falls on a Tuesday—a day that will drown in Guinness and Jameson. Traditionally, Irish pubs do not offer drink specials on St. Patrick's Day, given that at its core, it's a religious and cultural celebration. However, a common thread of Ireland's social fabric is the public house. Lenten restrictions on eating and drinking alcohol are also lifted on this day, opening bellies for filling and wells for tapping.

Most of the local Irish pubs observe St. Paddy's Day in one shape or form, whether it be slinging corned beef and cabbage, live Irish music, or painting the town green with colorful beer and affordable sips of Irish whiskey. Here are seven local Irish joints to "observe" St. Patrick's Day, no matter how many leaves you want to end up seeing on that shamrock come day's end. Don't forget to let that Guinness settle.

Fitzgerald's

They had us at "Two Gingers Irish Margaritas." Fitzgerald's will pour said festive cocktails for $6.50 all day long, and host a $6.50 Tullamore Dew "keep the glass" giveaway while supplies last. Their full eats menu will be available throughout the day, and dinnertime features $9.95 corned beef and cabbage. The Rockaholics take the stage from 8 p.m. to midnight.

Gallagher's

The Gallagher's downtown Huntington Beach location typically draws an impressive crowd on St. Patrick's Day, and this March 17 isn't expected to be any different. Opening their doors at 7 a.m., they'll host two or three live bands throughout the day until about 1 a.m., just before closing time. They'll also be serving up their standard Irish breakfast menu from 7 a.m. until noon, then all Irish eats for lunch and dinner. In keeping with tradition, they will not be offering drink specials.

The Irishman

Owner Ray Hartnett is an actual Irishman, hailing from Cork City, Ireland. Touting his downtown Huntington Beach pub as "the only real Irish bar in HB," Harnett adds that The Irishman pours "the best Guinness anywhere" and the "best selection [of] Irish whiskey." They won't be offering any drink specials, but they will be pouring green beer, playing Irish music, and throwing "a good craic." Eats include Irishman salad, sausage rolls, corned beef sandwich, and shepherd's pie. They're even selling $15 limited edition "The Irishman St. Patrick's Day 2015" t-shirts and $35 hoodies.

Killarney Pub

Killarney Pub will open its doors bright and early at 7 a.m. with plans to blast Irish music all day long until high-energy dance band West Coast Party Crashers takes the stage at 8 p.m. until close. They'll be serving up a limited Irish-style menu and pouring $3 non-Irish beers, including Pabst, Heineken, Miller Lite, and Negro Modelo. Irish menu items include Irish nachos, corned beef on rye, shepherd's pie, bangers and mash, and corned beef and cabbage.

Nadine's Irish Mist

The Coyle Family promises a "blast" this St. Patrick's Day at Sunset Beach-based Nadine's Irish Mist. They'll be taking over the neighboring parking lot and setting up an Irish picnic starting at noon, complete with chairs, tables, heaters, a bar, five standard Irish foods (including fish and chips and bangers and mash), and Irish band The Whooligans. Live music will go until closing time at midnight, and keeping in line with tradition, there will be no drink specials.
