If you're looking for a good reason to drink tonight, here it is: Orange County now has its very own brewers guild. That's right. Orange County Brewers Guild officially launched in November and features three Huntington Beach breweries: Beach City Brewery, Four Sons Brewing, and Riip Beer Company.

What is a brewers guild, you ask? According to the website, it's an "organization dedicated to educating the public of the brilliance that is local craft beer." So, in our words, the most important organization in Orange County.

More than 20 established craft breweries have tapped in and promise to support local craft beer culture in three main ways:

  1. Educate the public of the benefits of fresh, local beer.
  2. Promote the interests of breweries located within Orange County.
  3. Participate in and create local community events to raise funds for charities and increase public awareness of locally available craft beer.

The guild aims to make Orange County a craft beer destination, like southern neighbor San Diego.

Offering a three-tier membership, the guild includes a level for local brew hounds: Enthusiast Membership. For $40 per year, Enthusiast Members score a "$5 off growler fill card," VIP event access, a guild hat, special member perks along the way, and "a long, awkward hug from your favorite brewer." Dreams do come true.

Two additional industry-related memberships cater to production breweries, brewers-in-planning, suppliers, and industry allies. If you're really serious about the craft, you can read more about the Affiliate and Brewer memberships here.

A quick scroll through the board member roster reveals quite a few familiar and impressive names in the game, like Patrick Rue of The Bruery in Placentia (Board President), Brandon Fender of The Good Beer Company in Santa Ana (Board Vice President and Member), Aaron Barkenhagen of Bootlegger's Brewery in Fullerton (Member), Brian Rauso of Noble Ale Works in Anaheim (Member), Greg Nylen of Barley Forge Brewing Co. in Costa Mesa (Member), Steve Napolitano of Bottle Logic Brewing in Anaheim (Member), and Huntington Beach's own Glenn Closson of Beach City Brewery (Board Secretary and Treasurer).

Says Closson, "The OC Brewer's Guild is going to be a great way for all of the breweries that have been opening up to connect with other breweries, as well as with the craft beer enthusiasts in the area. The most exciting thing is the plans we are working on for OC Beer Week coming next year. It will be our first year, but we are going to go all out to make it a great event from the start."

Join up here, and refer to the handy brewery map below to plan your tour. In case you need more reasons to sign up, The Bruery came up with 10.

Cheers!
