Huntington Beach Then & Now: A Vintage 1984 Main Street

Then // Just to the right of where the Standard Market had been located, we see the first block of Main Street, located adjacent to Pacific Coast Highway. The "Then" image is from September 1984, and this is the only block on Main Street that boasts several surviving older buildings in a row. Merrilee's remains, but in the space once occupied by OP (right center of photo) the popular restaurant Wahoo's Fish Taco stands today.

Now // We recently learned that the building near center (blocked by tree) was the original Pacific City Hall, and thus efforts are now underway to document and detail the building. There is currently a plan on the table to have it overhauled by the current business to adapt to city code.

Let's Get Nostalgic
