Huntington Beach Then & Now: Bandshell Beats By The Pier

Then // About 100 years ago, circa 1914, fully-dressed beach-goers gathered near the small bandshell with the brand new concrete pier in the background. Popular songs of the day included Irving Berlin's "My Bird of Paradise," "St. Louis Blues" by W.C. Handy and "By the Beautiful Sea" by Harold R. Atteridge and Harry Carroll.

Now // We have a new concrete pier, but near the approximate site of the bandshell, volleyball is the entertainment of the day.
