Huntington Beach Then & Now: A Penny Arcade On Main Street

Then // As historian Chris Jepsen has pieced together, the deco/moderne Cut Rate Drug Store at the corner of Main Street and Walnut Avenue was built in 1938 by local oil tool mogul S.R. Bowen.

Now // Today, the building survives (along with Perq's) as an artifact of a long-gone Huntington Beach; a wonderfully stubborn reminder of what life was like on Main Street when it seemed almost every business catered to the needs of locals in the pre-tourism era.
