On the heels of its two-year anniversary, The Bungalow in Santa Monica announced in September 2014 that its second location would open seaside in Orange County in 2016. Pacific City, a new retail-restaurant hub in downtown Huntington Beach, welcomes Brent Bolthouse's vision as part of its growing roster of socially conscious "coastal cool" dwellers.

The Bungalow HB will open its doors on Friday, July 8, at 5 p.m. To kick it off, Brandon Boyd and Mike Einziger of Incubus will perform a special acoustic set on Thursday, July 7, in a private grand opening party, proceeds of which will benefit the HB Surfrider Foundation chapter.

Described as "a state of mind," The Bungalow launched at Ocean Avenue and Wilshire Boulevard in August 2012 and has since established itself as the neighborhood watering hole for Westsiders seeking cocktails and small bites in a refined rustic setting—with a view. The Baja-inspired charming beach cottage offers candlelit ambience, outdoor deck seating on natural wood and faded steel chairs, as well as entertainment via a dedicated game room. Patterned Mexican blankets, striking tile work, antiques, tchotchkes, and other treasures adorn the space. It's a prime spot to sit, sip, and watch the sunset, and that warm, cozy vibe is exactly what Bolthouse aims to establish in HB.

"I'm excited to create a unique and special place for Huntington Beach," said Bolthouse at the project's start. His vision for the five-room, 6,000-square-foot sister lounge on Pacific City's second floor features much of SaMo's same charm, but is tailored to the HB scene with the collaborative design genius of Santa Monica's Studio Collective. His end goal has been to keep the space comfortable and authentic, and deliver another stellar oceanfront view.

Think a large living room divided into curated nooks, a cozy porch, and a whimsical outdoor patio complete with oak trees—all stunning and summoning the bohemian vibes of the 1950s and 1960s. The space houses an eclectic mix of rustic furniture and knickknacks, and features hanging lanterns; fireplaces; ping pong, pool, and game tables; and floors constructed of handsome wood, Moroccan-inspired green and white herringbone tile, and summer wheat brick.

Cocktails include The Bungalow's signature line of sangrias and margaritas, and exclusive culinary partner Bear Flag Fish Company will send up tacos, sliders, and flatbreads in a custom-made dumbwaiter. At its core, The Bungalow exists as a bar and will deter imbibers from nursing drinks by enforcing table or party minimums similar to the Santa Monica location (which requires a $500 minimum for a party of four on the oceanfront patio) on Saturdays to start. Details are up in the air. He tells the OC Register, "We're going to test the temperature of the community. We want to be perceived as fair."

Find the Bungalow HB at the south end of Pacific City at 21058 Pacific Coast Highway. Hours are as follows: Monday-Friday, 5 p.m.-2 a.m.; Saturday, noon-2 a.m.; and Sunday, noon-10 p.m.
