Hurricane Marie promised Southern California an epic swell this week, and she brought it on "Big Wednesday." Bystanders felt the spray of waves smashing into the Huntington Beach Pier, Malibu Pier closed, Seal Beach suffered flooding, and even Long Beach saw waves. But the most epic scene of all was, of course, at The Wedge in Newport Beach, where 20- to 30-foot barrels fired and beckoned the fearless. The Interwebs are rife with spectacular photos and videos of the action, and one man in particular caught the spotlight.
Pro surfer and Hawaii-born Jamie O'Brien shredded the famous spot with not one, but two surfboards, dropping in on a Catch Surf foam board, then hopping onto a shortboard mid-wave. He posted on Instagram: "They call it big Wednesday! I call it a good day for a board transfer!"
You sir, got radical. Enjoy.
