Because some days a Bolsa Chica Wetlands jaunt just isn't in the cards. Visitors of the protected wildlife and marine habitat include photographers, birders, runners and dog walkers, all who experience a different furry, feathered or scaled friend each time. For those who can't make an appearance but want to see who does, the Bolsa Chica Land Trust has fired up its livestream Eco Cam again for round two—just in time for Earth Day 2014.
Launched on Wednesday, the Surfline-powered camera expands from last year's exclusive nesting cam to capture more species of birds, or the "big picture" of the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve ecosystem, according to the Land Trust. Viewers can still score zoomed-in looks at nests at Nest Site 1, along with views of North Tern Island. With a peek through the digital portal, virtual visitors may spot Pelicans, Caspian Terns, Elegant Terns, Royal Terns, Black Skimmers, Herons, Egrets, endangered Western Snowy Plovers and California Least Terns.
