14 Ways To Celebrate Fall In Huntington Beach

14 Ways To Celebrate Fall In Huntington Beach

It's pretty obvious that for our beach town, summer is our high point. However, there are a number of cool and tasty ideas to aid our transition into fall. Here are 14 ways to have an awesome autumn in Huntington Beach.

First, head outdoors and enjoy a hike in the beautiful Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve. Say farewell to the terns and watch the migratory shorebirds and waterbirds in the wetlands. Bolsa Chica is home to 186 regularly occurring species and an ever-changing landscape. This a great place for solitude and to become attuned to the season.

There are signs of fall all over town to satiate any appetite, which you're sure to have worked up after your hike! Begin with the rich smell and taste of Stumptown Coffee found at AoSA Coffee. Should you find yourself nodding off with the early sundown, try a shot of Stumptown Cold Brew Nitro, found on-tap and also taken home in a growler.

In case you have a furry four-footed companion in tow, you can both enjoy coffee and company at the Sit Stay Cafe, which is now offering their take on the famous spiced pumpkin latte.

The vegan and vegetarian surfers are onto something; check out their Secret Spot. If it's breakfast you're after, we recommend their blueberry mango pancakes. But what brought us here are their fall specials. They're serving up twice-baked butternut squash, homemade black beans, homemade salsa, and avocado—all wrapped in a spinach tortilla, as well as gluten-free pumpkin pancakes, topped with pumpkin butter, apples, and walnuts, and served with a side of potatoes. They can also be made vegan. Good and good for you!

Next up, roll into Bruxie on 5th Street for a savory roasted mushroom and goat cheese waffle, followed by their delicious Pumpkin Cheesecake Bruxie (spiced pumpkin cheesecake filling with candied pecans and ginger snap cookie crumble) or a simple and delicious pumpkin spice cake.

When autumn is in full swing, SeaLegs Wine Bar recommends a full-bodied red, namely Erzetic Cabernet Sauvignon from Slovenia, paired with their marinated hanger steak (grilled marinated Korean BBQ-style hanger steak with fried fingerling potatoes, mirin-glazed roasted Brussels sprouts and pickled onion). Finish with their special cinnamon bread pudding. Delicious!

For you beer aficionados, autumn will be thoroughly enjoyed with Beach City Brewery pouring Pumpkin Ale, Oktoberfest, and a Russian Imperial Stout, and Four Sons Brewing pouring "Nightmare on Gothard Street," a chocolate coffee stout.

Of course, we think diving into a nice hot steaming bowl of clam, shrimp, and crab chowder offered at Ritter's epitomizes fall. If you're feeling generous, share a nice light pumpkin gelato covered with crushed pecans and dipped in white chocolate with your date.

Do you have friends or family popping in for a visit? Hopefully they're staying at the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort and Spa, but if they decide to crash on your couch, you can still head over to enjoy the spacious environs of Watertable to experience "comfort food with attitude." They're also hosting winemaker dinners on Thursday, October 30, and Wednesday, November 12.

This means 50 percent off special services. Hot stone massage or hydrating signature facial, anyone?

You can also attend events at Shipley Nature Center, with its 18 acres of California native habitat. Shipley hosts Parent and Me events on Wednesdays at 11 a.m. with seasonal themes, and the cost is just $3 per parent. They also offer a child's trail guide so you can observe all of nature's changes as you walk through the habitats.

Finally and thankfully, Nekter Juice Bar, which has two locations in HB, has wowed us with their pumpkin pie smoothie made of pumpkin pulp, dates, banana, cashew nut milk, agave nectar, nutmeg, and cinnamon. We just had to squeeze this in! Enjoy!
