12th Annual Earrywood Haunted House To Terrorize Your Neighborhood
Bringing a bone-chilling halt to the serenity of Huntington Beach's Serene Drive for its 12th consecutive year, Earrywood Haunted House will beckon the bravest of souls to two nights of unregulated terror on October 25 and 31. This year, there's a theme: "Once you go in, there's no turning back."
Designed and constructed by roughly six families and numerous friends outside the home of Ken and Teri Earwood, the annual free haunted house grows scarier and more popular every year. It began as a fifth birthday celebration for the Earwoods' middle son, and has evolved into a horrifying neighborhood institution.
Always aiming to heighten the scares, the Earrywood crew has planned a "super scary" 2014 horror show, according to Ken, thanks to its unforgiving theme and tightened rooms. Earrywood normally fills roughly a dozen themed rooms with creepy characters and ghoulish scenes, and there's usually enough space to avoid one of the disturbing, whispering life-size dolls or the chainsaw-wielding Jason Voorhees. By condensing each room, the haunts grow more intense.
We'll keep the spoilers at bay, but expect scattered limbs, killer clowns, thirsty vampires, and one very possessed Regan MacNeil. Also expect to wait at least 45 minutes to an hour to enter. Guests are ushered into Earrywood in small groups, and approximately 1,500 people enter shaking and exit screaming over the course of both nights. The line will likely be shorter on the first night, and remember, there are no emergency exits or back-pedaling.
Earrywood will open on Saturday, October 25, and Friday, October 31, once darkness falls. Frights fall silent once the last victim runs howling. Follow along on Facebook for updates.
