Weekend Buzz: Native Plant Sale, Oktoberfest, & Family Arts Day

From beer and live music, to free pumpkins and gardening, there's lots to do in Huntington Beach this weekend. Here are three not-to-miss events.

Shipley Nature Center's Annual Fall Native Plant Sale

We look forward to this event every year. Last year, in fact, we rolled out with a wagon full of native plants that now adorn our patio and planters. On Saturday, October 18, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., over 100 native plant species will be available for sale at Shipley Nature Center at Huntington Beach Central Park. And here's the major perk: Huntington Beach residents score a buy one, get one free deal for plants, limited to five free plants of equal or lesser value and one voucher per household. In addition to the native flora, UCCE Master Gardener presentations will take place at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., and native garden books and wildflower seeds will be available for purchase. Details here.

Oktoberfest At Beach City Brewery

We Americans pride ourselves in extending Oktoberfest celebrations far past those of the event's birthplace of Munich, Bavaria, Germany, which kicks the kegs around the first week of October. This Saturday, October 18, Beach City Brewery will host a daylong Oktoberfest from noon to 8 p.m. An outdoor beer garden, German eats, discounts on German style craft beers, and games are all part of the festivities. Imbibers who bring their own beer steins will score a beer garden fill for same price as a pint. The best stein wins a growler and a $1 fill. Follow BCB on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter for updates. Of course, don't forget Old World's noted Oktoberfest, which runs through November 2. Prost!

Annual Family Arts Day At Huntington Beach Art Center

Family Arts Day returns to the Huntington Beach Art Center this Sunday, October 19, from noon to 4 p.m., offering a free way to get those creative juices flowing at any age. Guests will have a range of mediums at their fingertips, including pottery making, clay building, printing, painting, and screen printing—all taught by professional artists. The Seabreeze Youth Orchestra and Tupua Productions will set the tune of the day to live music and performances. More information here
