Weekend Buzz: OC Night Market, HB 80s, & Surfboards On Parade

Happy Friday, Huntington Beach! There's never a shortage of good times in Surf City USA, and we do our best to collect the finest local events every week to make sure you don't miss a thing. Here are three not-to-miss happenings this weekend.

The second and final 626 OC Night Market will take over the OC Fair and Event Center in Costa Mesa this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in an epic 3-night open-air bazaar, offering a ridiculous amount of food, art, music, dance, and more. Complete event details in our pre-event writeup here.

HB 80s

The crew behind Sunset Sixties and Surfside Seventies will enter the 1980s this Saturday, October 11, for the 1st Annual HB 80s. Hosted by Bud Llamas and Quiksilver Originals, the contest kicks off at Goldenwest at 7 a.m. and goes until 4 p.m. Awards ceremony and after-party at Aloha Grill to follow. The rules are pretty simple: Riders must shred only original boards from the 80s, and they're more than welcome to don their 80s best—including mullets. A few spots may still available and can be snagged by calling or visiting 17th Street Board Shop. "Some great 80s sticks [are] being resurrected" for the event, according to organizers. If the lineup's maxed out or if you'd rather just watch, tease your hair as high at it'll go and have a seat in the sand. In case you're curious what goes down at these throwback competitions, here are some photos of 16th Annual Surfside Seventies participants ripping it retro style. Check out the Facebook event for more details.

Surfboards On Parade Night Of A Million Waves Gala & Art Auction

It's the event HB's been waiting for all year long. The Rotary Club of HB hosted the first ever "Surfboards on Parade" this year, an ongoing exhibition of shaper-artist collaboration boards with a mission to eradicate skin cancer. The results have been stunning, and boards popped up and displayed all over town. On Saturday, October 11, all 28 boards will be auctioned off at the Waterfront Beach Hotel, with the proceeds benefiting Hoag Hospital, International Surfing Museum, Huntington Beach Art Center, and Rotary Club of HB. Tickets start at $50 and are available here. Guests clad in their finest aloha and cocktail attire will enjoy a VIP reception starting at 5 p.m.; the live and silent auctions kick off at 5:30 p.m. Dinner, live music, and Papa's Pilar rum tastings will also be served. See the boards in action via our coverage here.
