An instructional aide for special education at Edison High School by day and a yoga instructor at Harmony HB Arts & Wellness Center by night, "Love Life Yogi" Alison Zimmer dedicates her time and energy to healing others in Huntington Beach. We asked the wanderluster where she retreats for self-healing, and here are her top five spots around town for a little slice of zen. If you ever run into her, kindly ask her to speak to you in her yoga voice. It's the most soothing sound we've ever heard.

Harmony HB Arts & Wellness Center

This wellness center is a hidden gem, and the jewelry is one of a kind. I like giving their unique items as gifts for friends and family. The gift store has so many healing items; my favorite are the oils. I like to use the deep relaxation one in my classes. My favorite way to spend time at Harmony HB? In the massage room! They have the best rates: $59 for 60 minutes. (Ask for Carmel, she's very gifted!) Did I mention I teach four yoga classes here, too? Definitely check out this HB gem!

Loving Hut

This vegan restaurant is so amazing! I've never had a bad meal here. Any time I feel like I'm getting sick I will come in for some soup and hot tea. The #40 Fabulous Pho is my favorite and always knocks out my cold. They recently made some vegan dry dog food, too!

Batting Cages

My happy place! I played softball for 15 years, so any time I can play catch or hit some balls, I take it! When I'm feeling stressed out, I go to the batting cages, put my headphones on and hit four rounds. I always feel better afterward. The only thing that sucks is that they make everyone wear a helmet, so bring your own or wear a hat. (You don't want to share a helmet! Ew!)

River Jetty

I have a secret beach spot! This is where my boyfriend and I take our dogs to play in the warm shallow water. We put both of them in one of those kid trailers and attach it to the back our of tandem Schwinn. This perfect spot is located under the Pacific Coast Highway bridge that connects HB to Newport Beach. Most people go to the Newport side, so if you stay on the HB side, it's like a private beach! We have found some crazy sea life under the bridge, too. It's so awesome living in HB for reasons like this.

Olive Pit Grill

MmMmMm! I could eat here every day! I'm a vegetarian, and I love Mediterranean food. Their menu is awesome and has something for everyone, especially meat eaters. I love the salads with falafel and the pita bread with all the dips, but the oven-roasted potatoes are probably my favorite. I usually call in my order after I teach yoga, go pick it up and eat it at home. The food is always delicious, and I have never been disappointed with their service. If you haven't been here yet, do yourself a favor: Call up your best friend, plan a lunch or dinner date and have the best Mediterranean food around.
