Every once in awhile, I organize one of these amongst friends. Yes, there are larger organizations that schedule beach cleanups every so often, but these types of events are just as important. A couple of years ago, 8 friends got together and picked up more than 20 bags of garbage in a stretch of less than 2 miles. It goes to show we can make a difference.
Anyway, the plan is to meet at the HB Pier, just to the left of the pier, on the bottom level. Anyone is welcome, but please RSVP. I will provide the gloves (latex, so if you are allergic please bring your own) and large black trash bags. We will meet sharply at 9am, and stretch out from there. I will have one volunteer stay in one spot near the pier so you can bring any full bags to one place. As I have done before, I will contact the city to schedule at bag pickup at 11:30am. Afterwards, you are welcome to join us at Fred's Cantina--just across the street--for breakfast, mimosas, and good times (just let me know if you plan to do this so I can call for reservations).
We live in a strained social and political climate. But this is not the place or time for that. Everyone is welcome, no matter who you are or what you affiliate yourself with. See you then and look for more of these in the future.
